Learn the language of GD&T
Article Abstract:
Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) is a critical step in understanding engineering drawings. GD&T, a design dimensioning language, actually allows a designer to assign tolerances based on the part's functional requirements, as well as provide a description regarding the orientation form and location of past features. With an adequate knowledge on functional dimensioning, a designer can easily determine measurement discrepancies during inspections using GD&T. CAD software developers are also looking forward to develop automatic tolerancing in solid modelling programs.

Reap process advantages with shop-floor CMMs
Article Abstract:
Manufacturing companies, particularly industrial machine builders, that are eyeing to increase competence in the market deserve to use coordinate-measuring machines (CMMs). CMMs do not only provide highly accurate field and shop-floor measurements, but also allow users to collect data regarding mating part, assembly and alignment conditions. Prime Machine Inc, for instance, reported increased customer confidence and improved shop efficiencies through the use of CMMs.

Stamped parts present challenge for CMMs
Article Abstract:
The problems presented by stamped parts to coordinate-measuring machines can be resolved by 'fixturing,' or presenting the stamped part for measurement in its 'final mount' position. This can be achieved through the use of specialized probes, such as the CMM probe or 'sheet metal stylus' which the calibrating machines use as a basis for calculating dimensions, and adopting softwares which can be linked up to industrial measuring devices, such as lasers.
