Trends for 2000
Article Abstract:
The new millennium brings with it a number of challenges for the engineering service industry. The main problem will continue to be the recruitment of qualified and skilled professionals. However, there are particular concerns that also needs to be addressed. These includes the question of how to adapt to the changing demands of customers, how to promote the role of the engineer in newly developed project-delivery techniques, managing the release of new software and adjusting to globalization.

Optimizing on-site power
Article Abstract:
A panel of electrical engineers discussed interconnection issues, codes, technology and roadblocks from electric utilities that they have to deal with kwhen specifying on-site power and switching systems. They cited the requirements of the local utility for interconnect-paralleling with the utility as the most important obstacle to switching to on-site power in New York, NY. A major issue that arises from generating in parallel with a utility is a large, inappropriate electric bill. Other major challenges are fuel storage and local municipal sound ordinances.
