Partner program boosts supplier performance
Article Abstract:
Some suppliers and manufacturers have embarked on partner programs to enhance supplier performance. For instance, Johnson Controls Inc. implemented a supplier program in 1985 called 'Partners for Total Quality.' Under such program, suppliers' performance are evaluated on the bases of quality, delivery and leadtime. The success of this type of program depends on the commitment of both the supplier and manufacturer, their effort to make it succeed and the nature of their relationship.

Cliches aren't just quality rhetoric
Article Abstract:
Boston, MA-based Teradyne Inc. and Norwood, MA-based Analog Devices Inc. were able to solve their problems using total quality management (TQM). However, the task involved a lot of effort and cooperation from both camps. One of the keys to the successful implementation of TQM was their cooperative R&D program. The program aided in enhancing communication between the two firms and at the same time improved the companies' relationship with their customers.
