Plant expansions and upgrades announced

Solutia Inc, a St Louis, MO-based company, has unveiled an expansion and quality improvement program to help strengthen its Performance Films business. The program includes the upgrade of its Saflex polyvinyl butyral facility in San Jose dos Campos, Brazil, which came online at year-end 2000 and the capacity increases at the Indian Orchard facility in Springfield, MA. The program is expected to increase the firm's overall worldwide production capacity by about 20% over the next five years.

Petrochemical complex to be built
Article Abstract:
Fluor Corp's Fluor Danie Div will manage the design, procurement and construction of a $2.6-billion integrated petrochemical site in Nanjing, China, on behalf of BASF-YPC Co, a joint venture of BASF AG and China petroleum and Chemical Corp. Construction of the complex is set to start in 2002 and the site is expected to be fully functional by 2005. The project includes a 600,000 metric ton/year steam cracker and eight downstream plants.
