Protecting IT equipment
Article Abstract:
Section 607 of the 16th Edition of the IEE Wiring Regulations covers the installing of equipment such as computers that have high earth leakage currents. Computers are associated with two earthing factors, protective earthing for the usual reasons of safety and functional earthing for technical reasons. If the two are combined the former takes precedence but computers are very sensitive to the latter and the possible resulting pollution of the alternating mains supply. Manufacturers lay down specified levels and tolerances.

Spread the word on new test procedures
Article Abstract:
The 16th Edition of the IEE Wiring Regulations stipulates new requirements for testing of installations. New test euqipment will be required and it is essential that contractors are familiar with the Inspection and Testing Guidance Note. All installations must be tested on completion by a competent inspector. A full specification should be produced before work begins which will be the basis of the final operational manual. Failure to comply with the regulations may make the installation illegal.
