Rewriting the book on manufacturing systems
Article Abstract:
Quality control strategies that are process-based are better than those that are product-based. Modern manufacturing strategy must focus on behavior and controlling the underlying process rather than merely the generation of more paperwork detailing problems. Older quality control systems dealt mainly in the identification of defects, but new control methods focuses on the process of how a product is made and then accesses ways to improve the process quality and reduce cost.

Attributes data collection: a problem-solver
Article Abstract:
An attributes data-collection system facilitate the identification of the causes of production problems, such as downtime. It involves the assignment of specific labels to all factors that may have caused the problem and subsequent analysis of these data using attibutes charts and statistical process control. At the heart of the data analysis process is the Pareto chart, which ranks the various factors according to their contribution to the problem.
