Smart buffers adapt to shocks
Article Abstract:
Engineering company, Advanced Fluid Systems has developed a programmable load-sensitive decelerator. An electro-rheological fluid poppet valve has been fundamental to the shock absorbers' development. Electro-rheological fluids have been developed from lithium polymethacrylate. The device regulates stopping distances by measuring the forces acting on the poppet valve. Smart decelerators may be useful for the control of high-speed machinery.
