The bearable lightness of microgravity
Article Abstract:
Crystals produced in a microgravity environment have fewer defects than their Earth-grown counterparts. Microgravity-grown crystals are esier to study by X-rays for their structure and associated properties, which could lead to improving the way they are applied in current processes, or finding new uses. For example, the Center for Advanced Microgravity Materials Processing is helping EI du Pontde Nemours and Co and United Technologies Corp enhance zeolite products for hydrocarbon processing and environmental applications.
