The criteria: a looking glass to Americans' understanding of quality
Article Abstract:
Category 3, Customer and Market Focus, of the 1997 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Awards criteria refers to how an applicant for the award seeks to comprehend customer and marketplace demands. A revision of Category 7, Costumer Focus and Satisfaction, in the 1996 criteria, Category 3 acknowledges the significance of customer satisfaction in business and the increasing emphasis on markets. A comparison between the 1996 and 1997 versions shows that the newer version is more focused on relationship enhancement and that the number of item notes in its criteria has been reduced.
