The criteria: a looking glass to American's understanding of quality
Article Abstract:
Changes in the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award criteria have been undertaken to further improve quality management in organizations that use the criteria to pursue business excellence. The 1997 criteria which was renamed the 'Criteria for Performance Excellence' entails reordering of the seven categories which include leadership, strategic planning, customer and market focus, information and analysis, human resources development and management, process management, and business results.

Article Abstract:
The new criteria of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award illustrated the pivotal role of information and analysis. The standards detailed in this award category provide the foundation upon which the other six categories rest. An examination of the criteria detailed in the information and analysis section of the award will show that they define a system for overseeing performance that fuel the actions that will make a company outstanding.
