Titanium alloys come down to earth: super strong and corrosion-resistant alloys of titanium, well established in aerospace, are finding increasing usefulness in cars
Article Abstract:
Titanium alloys are well known for their use in aerospace, motor sports and some luxury cars because of their extreme resistance to corrosion, but they are also becoming increasingly popular in the manufacturer of volume vehicles. Applications include valves, valve springs, connecting rods and retailers, and there are also trials for their use in exhausts, fasteners, wheels and under panels. They are more expensive than steel automotive parts but not as expensive as fibre-reinforced composite parts. Different techniques are involved in fabricating and welding titanium alloys.

Speakers hail plastic construction breakthroughs
Article Abstract:
Cambridge Product Design and TT Plastics have developed loudspeakers featuring injection moulded plastic cones bonded to rubber surrounds. Molecular bonding is an advance on the traditional use of adhesives. The technique is based on the combination of polypropylene and styrene ethylene butylene styrene (SEBS). Molecular bonding improves product durability and reduces cost and injection moulding improves acoustic and aesthetic qualities. Parts may be recycled together. The technique has wide application to other products.
