What prevents TQM implementation in health care organizations?
Article Abstract:
The health care industry has yet to optimize its implementation of total quality management (TQM) despite mounting demands from the government and other payors. This noncompliance has prompted several prominent organizations such as the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and the Dept of Veterans Affairs (VA) to initiate some programs to improve quality in the health care sector. The VA, in particular, has conducted a study on the views of top and middle managers regarding difficulties in TQM implementation.

Strategic planning: the missing link in TQM
Article Abstract:
Recent studies document several failures with Total Quality Management (TQM) as well the many success stories. Failure resulted when TQM was not fully integrated with the organization's overall business strategy. Changing the culture of an organization is the fundamental effort of TQM. By integrating strategic planning tools with the TQM philosophy, the management can overcome any difficulties and make the organization fit, giving value to the customers.
