Why you can't link quality improvement to financial performance
Article Abstract:
Total quality in management cannot be linked to financialperformance because a company's financial standing is dependent on several unmeasurable and uncontrollable external factors such as national economy and competition. A review of guidelines for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award and the Deming Application Prize shows that the recognition of quality management does not depend on a company's financial performance. To ostracize awardees of these prizes for financial setbacks is totally misplaced and uncalled for.
