WiMax and Wi-Fi: separate and unequal
Article Abstract:
The difference between Wi-Fi which is a local-area networking standard developed by IEEE 802.II and WiMax which is the relatively new IEEE 802.16 standard and is a wireless replacement for a wired broadband connection is presented. The differences in the working of the two standards as well as the task ahead of the 802.16 group to finalize standards for conformance testing which will take a decade or more to develop is also discussed.
