A dove in the hand
Article Abstract:
Greenpeace demanded a total ban on nuclear testing during the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT). The CTBT text submitted in Jun 1996 marked a milestone in Greenpeace's efforts. Greenpeace protesters sailed to Shanghai to campaign against China's nuclear testing program at Lop Nor in May. Despite the Chinese army's intervention, the crew successfully conveyed the message of peace to China. Greenpeace played a key role in stopping the US from conducting a series of subcritical nuclear weapons tests scheduled to begin in Jun 1996 at the Nevada Test Site.
