BOD test for tropical countries
Article Abstract:
The effect of temperature on the incubation time of the biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) of microorganisms is addressed. BOD is a commonly-used parameter for predicting organic pollution in aquatic systems. Results show that higher temperatures have the same effect on the BOD values in testing for various pure chemicals, wastewaters and surface water samples. The BOD(3,27) test could therefore replace the BOD(5,20) test in tropical countries. The study reduced time and energy cost of incubation for BOD tests in tropical countries.

BOD test for tropical countries
Article Abstract:
A discussion and reply to the discussion on the use of the biochemical-oxygen-demand test (BOD) in tropical countries is presented. The discussion elaborates on the kinetics of BOD reactions and the unsuitability of the BOD test in tropical countries, suggesting a chemical-oxygen-demand (COD) test be used instead. The reply acknowledges the criticisms raised and agrees with the suggestion on the use of COD with some reservations.
