Cities are recognizing the importance of environmental factors in making urban centers better for human survival. Unfortunately, inner city residents tend to bear the burden of urban pollution and other problems, despite the fact their consumption of resources is less than that of suburbanites.

Five speakers from the first Earth Day in 1970 discuss their impressions about the environmental movement. One of the speakers, Gaylord Nelson, believes that Earth Day has achieved what it was supposed to because it has brought environmental issues to the attention of government.

Recycling terminology for paper waste is under examination to determine what constitutes a recycled paper product. The concern is over regulating how much recycled paper must go into the creation of new paper used in newspapers, writing and office papers.
