Fire frequency and the spatial age mosaic of the mixed-wood boreal forest in western Canada
Article Abstract:
Research indicates that short fire cycles in the early 1900s have resulted in Canadian boreal forest stands that are characteristic of large burns, exhibiting larger, younger, oblong-shaped polygons that have irregular edges. Overburned areas have produced stands in smaller, older, circular polygons that are more compact.

Do residual trees increase structural complexity in Pacific Northwest coniferous forests?
Article Abstract:
Research indicates that species mixture and differences among landscape characteristics should be combined with green-tree retention to enhance structural complexity in managed forests. Data were obtained from the Oregon Cascades region.
