Colonisation by a dominant ant facilitated by anthropogenic disturbance: effects on ant assemblage composition, biomass and resource use
Article Abstract:
The association of a dominant ant, Iridomyrmex purpureus, with fire trails in national parks and its effects on ant assemblages are investigated. There is a substantial presence of Iridomyrmex purpureus nests along fire trials than in nearby vegetation of similar topography and soils.

Novel patch-matrix interactions: Patch width influences matrix use by birds
Article Abstract:
A study investigated the influence of the width of patches of native eucalypt forest on bird occurrence in stands of exotic radiata pine forests. Observations showed that species richness decreased quickly with distance from eucalypt patches in younger than in older pine stands.
