Re-evaluating the role of selective abscission in moth/yucca mutualisms
Article Abstract:
The effect of selective abscission in the mutualism between Yucca kanabensis and one of its pollinating moths, Tegeticula altiplanella was examined. It was found that though selective abscission does contribute to producing fruit with more potentially viable seeds and fewer yucca moth larvae, it does not account for a regulating effect on pollinator populations.
