The summit in Brazil this summer failed to make the planned statements environmentalists had hoped for because industrialized nations like the US worked to keep wording vague. Environmental change will be achieved by grassroots organizing, not empty governmental declarations.

The World Women's Congress for a Healthy Planet in Nov 91 drew 1,500 female environmentalists who discussed grassroots organizing and the difference of the female world-view. Other environmental conferences for women are discussed.

Environmentalists and labor unions should work together to end the exploitation of workers and the damage being done to the environment. Environmentalists can negotiate with managers more effectively with the support of workers.
