ENSO and PDO variability affect drought-induced fire occurrence in Rocky Mountain subalpine forests
Article Abstract:
The relationships of El Nino-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and the Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO) to drought-induced fire occurrence in subalpine forests across the Rocky Mountains: Jasper National Park, Yellowstone National Park and Rocky Mountain National Park over the 1700-1975 period are discussed. Forecasts of ENSO that are dependent on the expected PDO phase suggest promise for fire hazard prediction across the West.

Effects of stand-level disturbances on the spatial distribution of a lichen indicator
Article Abstract:
The spatial distribution of the epiphytic lichen Lobaria pulmonaria that is related to different disturbances within a landscape where a remarkably high, patch abundance was noted is described. The presence of L. pulmonaria may provide information about conservation value of a landscape but not necessarily at a forest stand scale.
