Ecology of woodland herbs in temperate deciduous forests
Article Abstract:
The diversity of woodland herbs is one of the most striking features of deciduous forests in the temperate zone. Literature on the ecology of woodland herbs has been reviewed in light of a number of species becoming rare or threatened owing to the conversion of forests to other land uses, competition by alien plant species and increased abundance of native wildlife that impact negatively on woodland herbs.

Arbuscular mycorrhiza in soil quality assessment
Article Abstract:
Arbuscular mycorrhiza (AM) fungi formation in soil can be measured with a bioassay of roots from a test plant. Tests can also be utilized to measure phosphate transport by AM fungi. Tests indicate the quality of the fungi. AM fungi are important because they are the bridge between plant roots and nutrients in soil.

Avian extinctions from tropical and subtropical forests
Article Abstract:
Tropical forest birds are particularly sensitive to habitat perturbations compared with other taxa such as vascular plants. Extinctions of forest avi-fauna from the tropics and subtropics, lying largely between the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn, have been reviewed in a study.
