Effects of avian predation threat, water flow and cover on growth and habitat use by chub, Leuciscus cephalus, in an experimental stream
Article Abstract:
Research on predator-prey relationships indicates that population dynamics of the freshwater fish Leuciscus cephalus may be more significantly affected by sub-lethal effects produced by fish-eating birds than by predation death rates. L. cephalus were found to grow more slowly in the presence of fish-eating birds, affecting survival. Water flow and cover influenced L. cephalus feeding behaviors, but had less of an impact on overall survival than predation.

The importance of sand albedo for the thermal conditions on sea turtle nesting beaches
Article Abstract:
Research indicates that sand albedo has a significant influence on sea turtle hatchling sex ratios, as sex determination in sea turtles is temperature-dependent and albedo affects the temperature of sea turtle nests. Darker sands were found to be hotter than lighter sands due to solar radiation absorption; implications of global warming on sea turtle survival are also discussed.

Influence of host ecology and morphology on the diversity of Neotropical bird lice
Article Abstract:
Research on host-parasite interactions in Peruvian birds and bird lice species indicates that mean louse abundance is positively correlated with species richness and host body mass. Louse abundance, however, was negatively linked to the upper mandible size of the host bird's bill, suggesting a preening factor in morphology in addition to feeding.
