Integrated evaluation of variation in biological, chemical and physical soil properties
Article Abstract:
Principal component analysis (PCA) is effective in studying the biological, physical and chemical components of soil. Many physical and chemical tests have traditionally been performed. The biological tests have been less frequent. PCA allows an integrated study. Microbiological analyses include tests of basal respiration rate and substrate-induced respiration. Physical and chemical analyses include isolation of chemical components in clay, silt and sand.

Need of a strategy for evaluation of arable soil quality
Article Abstract:
Arable soil quality can be analyzed using fresh or unaffected stored soils. Tests include analyzing the health of soil microorganisms, nitrogen mineralization, nitrification of soil bacteria, soil respiration, acidic phosphatase activity and measuring pollutants. The tests must consider the biological, chemical and physical aspects of soil. The tests must also consider the impacts climate, topography and time have had on the soil.

Potential denitrification and nitrification tests for evaluation of pesticide effects in soil
Article Abstract:
Three measurements can be taken to examine the toxicity effects of pesticides on denitrification and nitrification in soil. An acetylene inhibition method can be used to measure potential denitrification activity (PDA). The constant growth rate of denitrifiers can be measured during PDA. A chlorate inhibition method can be used to measure potential ammonium oxidation activity.
