Life span variation of the freshwater pearl shell: a model species for testing longevity mechanisms in animals
Article Abstract:
Data is presented on the physiology of the Arctic freshwater pearl shell mollusk in relation to its longevity, which can reach 200 years. Contributing factors include the cold climate, which lowers metabolic rates, coupled with the species' ability to speed up the metabolic rate to repair damaged tissue or shell.

Greenhouse gas emissions from Canadian peat extraction, 1990-2000: A life-cycle analysis
Article Abstract:
The net greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from Canadian peat industry for the period 1990-2000 is examined using life-cycle analysis. The estimates show that peat decomposition associated with end use was the largest source of GHGs, comprising 71% of total emission during the 11-year period.
