A cheap way to control N(sub.2)O in agriculture
Article Abstract:
A cheap way to control nitrous oxide, a major contributor to the greenhouse effect and stratospheric ozone depletion, in agriculture is discussed. An experiment showed that for crops of the tropics, wet, soil-surface mulching with plant materials eliminated nitrous oxide emissions in soil denitrification almost entirely, although no mechanism is known at this time.

Mitigating the relationship between population growth and land degradation: land-use change and farm management in southwestern Uganda
Article Abstract:
Changes in agricultural and land-use practices in southwestern Uganda have decreased land degradation levels over a 50-year period, helping to alleviate the negative effects of population growth. Since 1945, more farmers are leaving land to fallow, shifting grazing from slopes to reclaimed wetland valleys, and improving soil fertility through compost and manure.
