Status and conservation of the tiger in Uttaranchal, Northern India
Article Abstract:
A field assessment study carried out by the Wildlife Institute of India (WII) with the support of Save the Tiger Fund (USA) in 2002-2003, is the most recent and comprehensive empirical evidence of the status of the tiger in Uttaranchal, Northern India. Given the severe threats faced by the tiger throughout its range, recommendations like prevention of poaching of the tiger and its prey species and conservation of tiger habitat are provided by the study report for the long-term survival of the tiger in Uttaranchal.

Threats to runoff-water harvesting in southern India include privatization of water-supply resources, siltation of reservoirs, and mining of groundwater, which may eradicate this traditional and environmentally sustainable method of water management.
