Mechanisms for allocation of environmental control cost: empirical tests of acceptability and stability
Article Abstract:
Three conventional allocation methods and four game theory solutions were applied to the problem of allocating the joint cost of a regional water treatment facility in San Joaquin valley of CA. Results show that the ability to meet future environmental standards at an acceptable cost often needs regional approaches due to treatment of economies of scale. Moreover, the allocation schemes have different outcomes in terms of their acceptability to the players, and in terms of their derived stability.

Environmental polarization and the use of old-growth forests in the Pacific Northwest
Article Abstract:
The economic factors of resource allocation and environmental amenities associated with environmental polarization are studied, using the case of remaining old-growth forests in the Pacific Northwest as the subject. Economic factors of environmental polarization include the issues related to external effects of timber production, ethical conflict regarding old-growth forests and differences in time preferences for income.

Environmental assessment in countries in transition: evolution in a changing context
Article Abstract:
An overview is presented on environmental policy reform in Eastern European countries and the former Soviet Union. While most European nations have adopted policies that incorporate interdisciplinary analysis of potential environmental impacts within a publicly accountable decision-making framework, policies in the former Soviet states do not yet reflect this framework.
