The refuge as an integrating concept in ecology and evolution
Article Abstract:
The refuge concept is considered as one of integrating concepts in ecology and evolution. The refuge looks at the environment from the point of the prey, which is particularly germane when thinking about or modeling prey or resource populations and hence refuge-thinking has strong potential explanatory power in both empirical and theoretical research.

Modes of speciation and the lifespans of species under neutrality: a response to the comment of Robert E. Ricklefs
Article Abstract:
In response to Robert E. Ricklefs' critique of his speciation model, Hubbell presents another model, which he calls 'peripheral isolate speciation' and addresses various issues raised by Ricklefs and other readers.
