Mountain lakes; sensitivity to acid deposition and global climate change
Article Abstract:
Studies of mountain lakes can reveal early warnings of environmental changes due to their sensitivity. The crystalline bedrock, thin soils and sparse vegetation of mountainous regions contribute to highly dilute lakes. Because these lakes are highly dilute, water chemistry surveys can easily determine the presence of atmospheric pollutants or other invasive materials.

Effect of climate change on Flux of N and C: air-land-freshwater-marine links: synthesis
Article Abstract:
The effects of climatic change on flux and transport of nitrogen (N) and carbon (C) from terrestrial seminatural upland ecosystems to aquatic ecosystems in Norway are described. Data shows that reduced snowpack can cause either decreased or increased N leaching, depending on interactions with N deposition, soil temperature regime, and winter discharge.

Manipulation of snow in small headwater catchments at Storgama, Norway: effects on leaching of total organic carbon and total organic nitrogen
Article Abstract:
The effect of soil frost on leaching of total organic carbon (TOC) and total organic nitrogen (TON) is studied by conducting a snow removal experiment in small headwater catchments. A change in snow depth and soil temperature does not have serious effects on TOC and TON leaching in the montane healthland area of Storgama.
