Population dynamics of rice rats (a Hantavirus reservoir) in Southern Chile: feedback structure and non-linear effects of climatic oscillations
Article Abstract:
The effects of endogenous feedback (density-dependent) mechanisms and climatic influences on population dynamics of the long-tailed rice rat (Oligoryzomys longicaudatus), the main Hantavirus vector in Southern Chile, are examined. 96% of the variation in annual per capita population growth rates is explained by a first-order feedback structure and non-linear effects of Antarctic Oscillation Index (AAOI) and Southern Oscillation Index (SOI).

Flexible oviposition strategies in tungara frogs and their implications for tadpole spatial distributions
Article Abstract:
Research is presented on the oviposition or egg-laying strategies used by the frog species Physalaemus pustulosus, and the ability of P. pustulosus to vary these strategies according to specific ecological contexts. The variance of these strategies, typically in response to pond leaf litter and surface area, produce different tadpole distributions within different niches.
