Population size and the risk of local extinction: empirical evidence from rare plants
Article Abstract:
The relationship between size of local populations and survival over ten years for 359 populations of eight short-lived, threatened plants in northern Germany is studied. It was found that the mean annual growth rate of surviving populations differed greatly between species, suggesting that there was no general deterministic decline in the number of plants due to deteriorating habitat conditions.

Seedling resistance to herbivory as a predictor of relative abundance in a synthesised prairie community
Article Abstract:
The value of palatability indices as predictors of community composition by reference to an independently-conducted study of community assembly is investigated. The resistance to herbivory is an important component of plant fitness in unproductive vegetation.

Effects of landscape context on herbivory and parasitism at different spatial scales
Article Abstract:
The dependence of spatial scale, experienced by an organism, on its tropic level is investigated. The plant-herbivore and herbivore-parasitoid interactions in 15 agricultural landscapes differing in structural complexity and its parasitoids are analyzed.
