Predicting local-regional richness relationships using island biography models
Article Abstract:
The implications of a new model for the interpretation of local-regional richness relationships are discussed. The general island biogeography model of local-regional richness relationships clearly demonstrates that the local-regional richness relationship ranges from almost linear to strong curvilinear depending on how species abundance on mainland changes with mainland richness are described.

Interaction between maternal effects and dispersal
Article Abstract:
The outcome of introducing a maternal effect is tested on a population of dispersing organisms in different ways under both spatially homogenous and heterogeneous conditions, through novel modification of a well-known population model. It is found that by introducing maternal effect into potential future reproductive output otherwise highly unstable population dynamics are simplified.

Empirical perspectives on species borders: From traditional biogeography to global change
Article Abstract:
Several empirical approaches to developing and testing hypotheses about the determinants of species borders are outlined. The way in which modern analytical and computer techniques have improved this approach and generated important new hypotheses concerning species' range determinants is demonstrated.
