Promises, promises: halfway through its first year, the Clinton administration offers a mixed bag on the environment

Pres Clinton's administration has approved some measures that have enhanced environmental protection. These include preventing resumption of the Savannah River weapons plant nuclear reactor and the raising of grazing fees on public lands. On the other hand, other need policies have been lacking.

Election in the imbalance
Article Abstract:
Environmental protection played a minor role in the 1992 presidential election, and the Bush and Perot campaigns portrayed the issue by pitting jobs against conservation. The Democrat ticket included a leading environmentalist in Al Gore, but downplayed its message to get elected.
