Searching efficient protection strategies for the eutrophied Gulf of Finland: The combined use of 1D and 3D modeling in assessing long-term state scenarios with high spatial resolution
Article Abstract:
An experiment based on two ecosystem models and using various 1D and 3D models is conducted to examine and assess various searching efficient protection strategies for the eutrophied Gulf of Finland that is the Baltic Sea. The analysis reveals that the primary target of the common water protection policy in the Baltic Sea should be the largest nutrient sources, as its decrease can also decrease the cyannobacterial biomasses in that region.

Modeling the Baltic Sea eutrophication in a decision support system
Article Abstract:
The SANBALTS (Simple As Necessary Baltic Long-Term Large-Scale) model is developed to evaluate the various management options for reducing the Baltic Sea eutrophication. The results present two important features for ecosystem management that states that the impacts of local measures can be modified by long-range transports.

Internal ecosystem feedbacks enhance nitrogen-fixing cyanobacteria blooms and complicate management in the Baltic Sea
Article Abstract:
The effects of eutrophication on the cyanobacteria blooms in the Baltic Sea are studied. The analysis reveals that a reduction in nitrogen and phosphorus external loads is extremely essential to reduce cyanobacteria blooms and overall signs of eutrophication in the sea.
