Tropical forest biodiversity and the World Heritage Convention
Article Abstract:
An overview is presented on the World Heritage Convention, which would provide a global legal regime for conservation of sites with cultural and natural significance, such as rain forests. It is posited that the Convention could be more effective if it included specific forest management strategies and guidelines for sustainable development.

Status of the world's remaining closed forests: an assessment using satellite data and policy options
Article Abstract:
The authors advocate the use of satellite imagery for developing effective protection policies for forest conservation, and other technological innovations such as the Internet for enhancing public awareness of the benefits of conservation. They argue that even closed forests risk being cleared if a gap exists between environmental research and public knowledge.
