Systematic evaluation of pollutant removal by urban wet detention ponds
Article Abstract:
A study of an evaluation of pollutant removal using urban wet detention ponds conducted by Jy S Wu, Robert E Holman and John R Dorney has several flaws. The surface to area (SAR) ratio for the LS pond was computed erroneously as 7.5%. The values of TKN and TP were erroneously joined at the point which corresponded to an SAR value of 7.5%. Finally, the basins with SAR values ranging from 2.3 and 16.5 were not taken into account. Thus, the research results have to be analyzed from a different perspective.

Implicit scheme for estuarine water-quality models
Article Abstract:
Comments on Byung-Gi Hwang and Wu-Seng Lung's use of an implicit time integration scheme for calculating water quality in estuaries are presented. Hwang and Lung claimed that the application of the fully implicit model, such as QUICKEST, is suitable for unstable advection problems for large Courant numbers. However, a test case shows that the implicit scheme produced inaccurate results when used for Courant numbers greater than one.

Conservative semi-Lagrangian algorithm for pollutant transport in rivers
Article Abstract:
Shape-preserving interpolations of cumulative mass variables are proposed as an alternative semi-Lagrangian scheme for portraying river pollutant transport. This scheme also employs flux-limiting technologies and is intended to solve problems involving advection-diffusion processes.
