Techniques to reduce the impact of asulam drift from helicopter sprayers on native vegetation
Article Abstract:
A combination of bioassay plants and drift collectors detect the damage caused by herbicide drift downwind. Creation of "no spray" buffer zones in excess of 160-180 meters are required to reduce the effect of drift asulam from helicopter sprayers on native ferns. Asulam sprays control the growth of weeds but also hampers the growth of ferns. The areas adjacent to protected sensitive areas should be sprayed with asulam only when the wind blowing direction is from the buffer zone to the spraying zone.
