Testing hypothesis for excess flower production and low fruit-to-flower ratios in a pollinating seed-consuming mutualism
Article Abstract:
A series of experiments were conducted in Arizona to investigate low fruit-to-flower ratios in senita cacti that rely exclusively on pollinating seed-consumers. It was found that pollinator attraction and pollen dispersal increased with flower number, but fruit set did not, refuting the hypothesis that excess flowers increase fruit set by attracting more pollinators.

A general model of site-dependent population regulation: population-level regulation without individual-level interactions
Article Abstract:
Research on population dynamics indicates that average species fecundity per capita and numbers of occupied breeding sites are independent of each other, provided individuals choose sites at random, but that variations in per capita fecundity are driven by declines in sizes of populations.
