The US Forest Service: whither the new resource management paradigm?
Article Abstract:
The performance gap that prompted the creation of the Association of Forest Service Employees for Environmental Ethics as an internal reform movement within the US Forest Service diminished between 1990 and 1996. Change is taking place in forest management and within the US Forest Service as a result of internal and external pressures.

Regional industrial ecology: examples from regional economic systems of forest industry and energy supply in Finland
Article Abstract:
The article explores industrial ecology, or production systems based on recycling and cascading of energy via cooperation. A case study from Finland is examined, in which the forest industry produces waste energy which is then distributed by surrounding power plants to supplement the country's power supply.

Stakeholder objectives for public lands: rankings of forest management alternatives
Article Abstract:
The US Forest Service should include stakeholder participation sufficiently early in the planning process to help in the development of management alternatives. It may be possible for the Forest Service to negotiate trade-offs between attributes or goals highlighted as significant to affected stakeholders.
