The attitudinal differences in source separation and waste reduction between the general public and the housewives in Hong Kong
Article Abstract:
The general public in Hong Kong is more supportive of household waste separation programs than housewives. A survey showed the attitudinal differences between the housewives and the general public with regard to acceptance of source separation of household waste and a deposit-refund system on beverage containers and cell batteries. Housewives were less intense in their support of waste recycling and reduction as compared to the deposit-refund program. Economic incentives were found to boost the housewives' support for improved waste recycling and reduction programs.

An assessment methodology for environmental policy instruments: an illustrative application to solid wastes in Hong Kong
Article Abstract:
A methodology for the systematically evaluation of environmental management strategies is applied to assess solid waste management in Hong Kong. Selection of waste management policy is made more transparent by using these criteria. The assessment of solid waste management options in Hong Kong fail to involve non-government bodies in the consultative process. Private organizations therefore, object to the selected policy instrument by hindering its operation. The assessment methodology makes the process of evaluation open to the evolution of a workable consensus.

Preventing fishing-sinker-induced lead poisoning of common loons through Canadian policy and regulative reform
Article Abstract:
An examination of 215 dead common loons in Canadian waters showed that 23% died of lead poisoning after ingesting fishing weights. It is estimated that about 125 to 187 million lead fishing sinkers are lost or discarded annually by anglers in these waters. Although most of the major interest groups and organizations were aware of this problem as revealed by a survey, there has been little effort to prevent lead toxicosis. The need for a federal and local action to address this issue is discussed.
