The enchytraeid Cognettia sphagnetorum in risk assessment: advantages and disadvantages
Article Abstract:
Reproduction patterns of worms can be a measurement of soil quality. A test was conducted to determine the effects of high copper content on worm reproduction. The enchytraeid Cognettia sphagnetorum reproduces by asexual fragmentation. The organism split into five fragments in the controlled soil but into only two fragments in soil highly contaminated with copper. Other factors do affect fragmentation. Organisms fed green algae increased their fragmentation.

Time scale for forest regrowth: abandoned grazing and agricultural areas in southern Norway
Article Abstract:
Research of natural reforestation processes in southern Norway revealed factors that influence rates of regrowth. Open areas used for grazing and agriculture over several hundred years have been reduced 50% in size between 1950 and 1991. Regrowth rate is affected by the distance to the forest's edge and degree of soil wetness. Dryer regions experienced faster reforestation than wetter areas such as ravines.

Assessment of management-dependent nutrient losses in tropical industrial tree plantations
Article Abstract:
Studies were conducted on Indonesian tree farms to show plantation managers the effects of different management methods on productivity. Results indicate that nutrient losses from the cumulative effects of slash and burn, erosion, and leaching exceed those of harvesting. Implications for effective plantation management policies are discussed.
