Tree-limits and Montane forests in the Swedish Scandes: sensitive biomonitors of climate change and variability
Article Abstract:
A cooler climate in the Swedish Scandes has contributed to retrogressive responses in arboreal vegetation at higher elevations. Studies of forest composition, structure and position yielded information on these responses, including retarded growth, defoliation, tree-limit retraction and decreased regeneration. These studies help clarify connections between climatic change and environmental change.

Palsa bogs as a climate indicator - examples from Dovrefjell, southern Norway
Article Abstract:
Climatic warming is contributing to the disappearance of palsas, or peat-covered bogs. Palsas are important ecologically, as they allow survival of permafrost landforms in below-freezing climates. They are sensitive to any human impact that alters the surface layer insulating effects or destroy the peat cover, especially those in regions where their distribution is marginal.
