UVR sensitivity of Chaoborus larvae
Article Abstract:
Ontario, Canada's Ruth-Roy Lake, a transparent, fishless body of water, is used to demonstrate ultraviolet radiation sensitivity in the larvae of Charoborus, or phantom midge. Findings suggest that ultraviolet radiation may be responsible for the small Charoborus community size in Ruth-Roy due to larvae mortality, and possibly in other lakes with a similar environment.

Reconstruction of centuries-old Daphnia communities in a lake recovering from acidification and metal contamination
Article Abstract:
An analysis is presented on historic and current Daphnia populations in Ontario, Canada's Hannah Lake. Genetic tests reveal a species shift between pre- and post-contamination conditions, from Daphnia mendotae and D. pulicaria. This molecular-paleolimnological technique may be applicable to assess recovery in other lakes.
