Watershed scale assessment of nitrogen and phosphorus loadings in the Indian River Lagoon basin, Florida
Article Abstract:
The extent, magnitude, and significance of watershed scale assessment of total nitrogen and total phosphorous loadings, and the relative implication of various sources of total nitrogen and total phosphorous to the whole nutrient mass balance input in the Indian River Lagoon basin is evaluated. The current rate of nutrient loadings, which is causing a shift in the primary producers of the Indian River Lagoon from macrophyte to phytoplankton-or algal-based system, has to be reversed.

Evaluation of critical BOD loadings from Mauritian sugar factories to streams and standard setting
Article Abstract:
The critical biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) load obtained by utilizing a simple water quality model when released in the Mauritian rivers increases the dissolved oxygen content. The Mauritian sugar factories creating organic pollution in water bodies are under pressure to provide an effective water quality management programme. The point sources of pollutants in water bodies are regulated by the loading policy dependent on simple water quality models.

Impacts of land use conversion on bankfull discharge and mass wasting
Article Abstract:
The erosional processes of mass wasting and channel incision in the Nemadji River Watershed are studied collecting land use and bankfull discharge data along its streams. It is found that mass wasting increases with bankfull discharge, which occurs more where conversions of coniferous forests to deciduous take place and in watersheds with smaller wetlands.
