A rough guide to anaerobic digestion costs and MSW diversion
Article Abstract:
Capital and annual cost estimates are presented for the anaerobic-digestion processing of municipal solid waste into compost and soil amendment components. Costs projected include necessary equipment, building construction, and plant work, but excludes collection vehicles and land purchase prices. Category divisions specify costs for a metropolitan area, a midsize city, and a satellite city.

Modeling a compost facility
Article Abstract:
A computer program, Computer Wizard, was developed by University of Georgia engineers to help design efficient windrow composting operations. The program uses algorithms to address conditional inquiries based on user inputs such as types of equipment, amounts of feedstocks, and number of employees, and also calculates start-up and operating costs.

Micronized compost and microbial life in compost
Article Abstract:
An evaluation is presented on the micronization of compost and whether such fine-gauge crushing will kill off living organisms within compost materials. While some organic matter can be rejuvenated with the addition of water, findings suggest that micronized compost should be analyzed for organism content prior to application.
