Burgundy's Jean-Marie Guffens heads south in disgust
Article Abstract:
Jean-Marie Guffens of Verget has cut the company's production of white Burgundy in half, due to the poor quality of the 1998 vintage and the current price of Burgundy grapes. To make up for that cut in production, Guffens will be producing 27,000 cases of wine from southern France. Two-thirds of his new chateau is devoted to red varieties, and the rest to whites.

Article Abstract:
The British Medical Journal published a study linking moderate alcohol intake in women to higher levels of 'good' cholesterol, or high-density lipoprotein. Women who drink between one and two glasses of wine per day have a lower risk of heart disease than teetotalers or heavy drinkers.
