California's magic touch with auctions

Charity wine auctions in California raise more money than those held in any other state. Thirty-nine auctions were held in 1992 in the state, raising money for AIDS and other causes. California's wealthy population and large wine industry are discussed.

Benefit auctions prosper, defy recession fears

Charity wine auctions raised $6,191,994 last year. Even in difficult economic times, the auctions helped fund cultural institutions, high school athletic departments, poor and homeless problems, AIDS research, and historic building renovation.

Despite recession, charity auctions see good growth

Charity wine auctions held in 1992 netted respectable sums of money, despite the recession. The Napa Valley Wine Auction raised $1,010,200. Beneficiaries of these auctions included AIDS victims and the Association for Retarded Citizens.
