Sonoma follows Napa with new labeling law
Article Abstract:
A new law passed in September 2006 prohibits the use of the word 'Sonoma' in a winery or brand name unless at least 75 percent of the wine in the bottle is made from grapes grown in Sonoma County, California. The law resembles a similar one passed in 2005 involving the 'Napa' name, but although the Napa law was widely supported, the Sonoma bill divided the California wine industry.
